Milton Ohring's Engineering Materials Science integrates the scientific nature and modern applications of all classes of.
In a field of such a magnitude as this, of course, each phase of the subject cannot be investigated completely; but the basic concepts behind each of the four parts into which the book has been divided are presented.
Since the book is intended for college freshman and sophomore use, much more than this is not required.
Introduction to Engineering Materials
The short first part of the book on the raw materials of engineering presents, as one would expect, the sources, formation and recovery of minerals.
It is really some very elementary physical geology.
In the second part, the production of engineering materials from the crude ores are discussed. Mineral dressing, such chemical processes as leaching, calcination, roasting, combustion and the branches of extractive metallurgy--pyrometallurgy, hydrometallurgy and electrometallurgy-- are described.
Beginning with the fundamental states of matter, the mechanical, physical a n d chemical properties of engineering materials are discussed in the third part.
The fourth part, with which more than two-thirds of the book is concerned, deals with such specific materials as those for the generation of energy water, fuels and explosives ; ferrous and non-ferrous metals a n d alloys; natural and artificial building stones; natural and synthetic organic materials as wood, rubber and plastics; and protective materials as surface coatings and lubricants.
Each of the various materials is described in some detail. In the case of the ferrous and non-ferrous materials, for instance, the source, production, properties and uses are discussed. In the case of rubber, the production, vulcanization, latex processing, the various synthetic rubbers, and the physical properties are discussed. Whole books have been written about each of these materials, so t h a t one should not expect to find everything available on each in this volume. But one will get an over-all survey of the broad field of engineering materials, what they are, where they come from and why and where they are used.
Bright Wilson, Jr. This book presents a diverse selection of cutting-edge research on the development of polymeric materials and nanomaterials for new and different applications. These include electrical applications, biomedical applications, sensing applications, coating applications, and others.
A few chapters dedicated to materials for construction applications are also included. Discussions include the properties, behavior, preparation, processing, and characterization of various polymeric materials, nanomaterials, and their composites. Some of the chapter authors present theoretical studies of these systems, which can help readers to develop a better understanding in this area.

Sathish Kumar, C. Moganapriya, and R. He is also a full professor of polymer science and engineering at the School of Chemical Sciences of the same university. A prolific author and researcher, Professor Thomas has over publications to his credit and has been cited over 23, times at last count. He has published more than 80 research articles in peer-reviewed journals and has co-edited many books. Pious C. He is an MTech graduate in polymer science and engineering.
The research activities of Professor Haponiuk include chemical technology; polymer engineering, polymer characterization, chemistry and technology of polymers and rubber, thermal analysis of polymers, and materials science.
We provide complimentary e-inspection copies of primary textbooks to instructors considering our books for course adoption. CPD consists of any educational activity which helps to maintain and develop knowledge, problem-solving, and technical skills with the aim to provide better health care through higher standards.
It could be through conference attendance, group discussion or directed reading to name just a few examples.
We provide a free online form to document your learning and a certificate for your records. Already read this title?Engineering, Science, Processing and Design. Ultrasonic Nondestructive Testing of Materials: The thoughtful reading of this book will not guarantee success and efficiency to those who are beginning research careers in a n y branch of science, but it will most certainly improve them.
Since the book is intended for college freshman and sophomore use, much more than this is not required. I shall be strongly recommending its download particularly in view of the lively case studies. The book is highly recommended as a textbook for a second course in engineering materials.
